Krix Release Extreme In-Wall - EPIX

Filed under: Krix Loudspeakers, News, Speakers

Krix has continued the expansion of its Extreme Home Cinema range with the introduction of the Epix in-wall loudspeaker.

Building speakers into a wall provides a number of benefits such as freeing up floor space or the ability to ‘hide’ speakers behind a large projection screen or compliment a TV panel display. The Epix In-Wall speaker has been developed to suit 45mm x 90mm or 35mm x 90mm timber stud wall construction.

A modified version of the award winning Neuphonix / Epicentrix floor stander and centre channel combination – the Krix Epix LCR combines high level performance with discreet install appeal. These speakers are installed during the construction period of your new home or renovation, so early consultation with your Krix retailer as well as your architect and builder will ensure that system design, the speaker mounting framework and cabling will be completed at the appropriate stages of the project.

Super audio sound reproduction, dynamic midrange and deep bass extension are all attributes of this special in-wall design. Complete with mounting hardware, plasterboard fixings and a solidly braced back enclosure – the Epix is the complete in-wall speaker for discerning listeners. The fully enclosed back-box ensures that no matter where the Epix are installed – acoustic integrity will be maintained – a feature of all Krix concealed audio speakers.

The removable grille frame is covered in acoustically transparent cloth which can be dyed to match your wall colour – helping the speakers ‘disappear’ in your room. Whether it’s a purpose built home cinema room – or multi function living area, Krix’s Extreme In-Wall speakers provide the perfect solution between discreet looks and high-end performance.

With 50% of Commercial Cinemas in Australia using Krix and the chance to hear them in 32 countries around the world - Krix is the choice for YOUR home cinema.  Click here to follow the link to the Epix Product Page - http://www.krix.com/Product/Detail.aspx?p=97&id=85

I have a couple of questions for you Peter.

Why have you made an Epicentrix center speaker?  I would have thought that buying three of the same speakers up front would be a better way to go - (or am I wrong)?  And also - do these speakers have mid and treble controls?

Hi Scott, thanks for the queries.  You are indeed correct in saying that three identical speakers are the way to go - which is in fact exactly what Krix have done.  The Epix speakers are exactly the same for left / centre and right - however we have made provisions for the centre speaker to be made in two ways.

As is the case in the image shown - the centre speaker is mounted horizontally and therefore we can use an Epicentrix style baffle with the HF driver located either above of below the midrange.  It is below the midrange the image as this meant the tweeters were all in an exact horizontal line. In this instance the client would order 2 x Epix (Vertical) and 1 x Epix (Horizontal).

If space behind the screen is a little tighter, then the client can order 3 x Epix (Vertical).  We assumed that people wanting to hide all three speakers behind a screen - that in most cases we would supply 3 x vertical units.  But in the case of only placing the centre behind the screen, with the mains in view - that the option to do a horizontal centre might provide a wider sound stage in a bigger room.

As for the tone controls on the Mids & HF - no we do not supply anything like this, especially given their likely location and lack of accessibility.

Cheers as always.
