A Cinematic Milestone
A new era of immersive cinema in Adelaide
At Krix, we’re incredibly proud to have played a key role in bringing the first Dolby Atmos-enabled commercial cinemas to Adelaide, in partnership with Edge Digital Technology and GU Film House Adelaide. Located on the site of the original Greater Union cinema on Hindley Street, the newly refurbished GU Film House blends cutting-edge audiovisual technology with a premium moviegoing experience.

The power of Atmos with Krix
Two of the six cinema rooms have been custom-built to deliver the full Dolby Atmos experience, featuring Krix loudspeakers strategically positioned throughout each Vmax auditorium. With 194 and 242 seats respectively, these expansive rooms are designed to completely immerse the audience in a three-dimensional sound environment.
Our Krix cinema speaker systems have been engineered for precise dispersion, low distortion, and deep, dynamic output - qualities essential for delivering Atmos soundtracks as they were intended. Whether it's an explosion overhead, a whisper behind your ear, or the rich swell of a musical score, Krix brings every sonic detail to life with stunning realism.

Seamless sound across all auditoriums
Beyond the flagship Atmos rooms, all four general admission cinemas at GU Film House Adelaide are also fully equipped with Krix speakers. These theatres cater to between 110 and 208 patrons each, screening everything from niche arthouse releases to mainstream blockbusters. No matter the film or the format, the Krix installation ensures consistent, high-fidelity audio across every seat in the house.
Designed for more than movies
With licensed bars, curated menus, and the ability to host private screenings, award nights, and corporate events, GU Film House Adelaide is more than just a cinema - it’s a destination. And with Krix behind every screen, it’s also a showcase of Australian audio engineering at its finest.

A proud collaboration
This installation wouldn’t have been possible without the expertise of Edge Digital Technology, whose meticulous attention to detail and integration experience ensured a flawless rollout. Being able to walk through the completed cinemas ahead of opening and hear the system in action was a proud moment for the Krix team—and a testament to what can be achieved when premium sound is made a priority.
At Krix, we’ve spent decades refining our commercial cinema systems to bring cinema-goers closer to the story. Projects like GU Film House Adelaide remind us just how powerful that connection can be.

Note: GU Film House Adelaide sadly closed its doors in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with permanent closure confirmed in September that year.
